The saying “education is the key” is an old one, but it’s never been truer than it is now. Unemployment figures are currently at 9.2 percent, and it doesn’t look as though this figure is going to change any time soon. With the massive layoffs and job losses, many people are finding a safe haven in returning to school and getting more education as a way to stay viable in an increasingly competitive job market. School, at least in America, is cost prohibitive to a point that has kept many from taking this huge step, but there are many programs available that can help lessen the burden of getting education with a BA or an online phd degree:

Types Of Assistance

Though you may be aware that there is financial assistance out there for traditional and non-traditional students, you might not be aware of the categories. Understanding this will help you know where you should be looking:

Scholarships

This is money that is given to promising or low-income students that need it. You can contact your school and ask them for a list of available scholarships. They can even help you shorten the list down to ones that apply to your specific situation.

Financial Aid

This is a government program that is on a need basis and doesn’t require repayment. If a student or individual lives at a certain economic level or below a poverty line, you’ll get more money. With that said, if you or your parents make too much money, then you will be considered ineligible for financial aid.

Loan

These are low interest loans that are given to the student or borrower where payment is halted until, at least, six months after graduation. This is the most common way individuals pay for college and the same reason why many choose not to go. You can rack up tens of thousands of dollars in debt that will take you decades to pay off. Although this is a payment option, you don’t have to choose it.

Before You Take Out Loans

Before you conclude that going back to school is too costly, realize that you have options. Before you take out any money, check with the following organizations:

The School

The first place you want to start looking for money is with the school itself. Sometimes, they’ll give you money based on need or ability. They’re also the best source of information because, after all, they deal with this every day. Colleges know all of the facets of the process and they’ll be your best source for scholarship, loan, and other financial information.

FAFSA

This is the federal program that gives individuals money based on need, as specified above. This is one of the best resources for older people going back to school, especially if you have children and are above a certain age.

Single Mothers Or Parents

There’s a ton of programs out there for single parents, especially for mothers. If you’re a mom, there’s money just waiting for you. The best resource to check for this is online as there are too many to list. Just do a search for education assistance for single mothers.

It’s important in times like these that people take every opportunity to pull themselves out of their economic situation, and the best way to do this has always been through education. Check with these resources to find money that’s just waiting for you to use. All it takes is a little effort and looking. Your education may be a lot cheaper than you think.

Many people search and search for the University they will attend upon graduation from high school. Eager students look forward to their time at university while parents wring their hands hoping that their children choose to attend a university that is not only close to home but also within their budget limitations. Another worry that parents have when their children decide to attend college is whether or not that university they attend will have the specialized and individualized services that their children were accustomed to receiving in high school. Face it; larger universities tend to be rather impersonal when it comes to the education of their students.

One answer to all those worries and more is to transition your students from high school to a two-year college rather than throwing them to the university wolves so to speak. Many people find that two-year colleges can in fact provide superior educations to four-year universities for those first two years or foundation college level courses. You will not get the specialized or specific instruction in a two year college that is available to upper level students on a university level but most students find the first two years of their college educations focused on getting the requirement and pre-requisite courses rather than the specialized courses in their intended field of study.

Many people also find that those first two years at a community college-transitioning from a small pond to a larger lake-are much easier to handle than going straight from high school to a university-out of the pond and into the ocean. Universities often have lower level classes as auditorium classes. These classes offer little individual instruction and are often sink or swim sorts of classes. Those students who have special learning needs are often lost in the shuffle when entering a university. Community colleges offer smaller classes and ample opportunities for tutoring as well as classes on how to learn to study.

Two-year colleges are also much easier on the budget than most universities. Most people find that community college does not place nearly the financial burdens on families that universities place. Add to that the fact that most community colleges offer very flexible class scheduling and even some courses online and you will find that there are many reasons to consider community college that go well beyond mere budgeting requirements.

Another benefit to students who wish to enter the work force sooner rather than later is that you can actually get a degree or certification in certain programs from a two-year college. This means that you can actually graduate and begin earning much sooner than if you were to attend a four-year college in search of a degree. If you aren’t sure you want to invest the next four or five years of your life in pursuit of a degree or you simply aren’t ready to commit yourself to one line of work for the rest of your life it is a good idea to spend two years in a community college rather than making the leap straight into a university setting.

If you are considering whether or not a community college or two year education is the best course of action for your specific needs, I really recommend creating a list of pros and cons of each and balancing your budget to see where your needs are most likely to be fully met. Remember you can always transfer to a university once you’ve completed your two-year college education or at any time during that education as long as you meet the universities admission requirements. Good luck and remember that your college education is one of the largest indicators of your future earning potential so take it seriously.

Special education children, especially those with autism really require one-on-one education, or no more than five people per teacher. Any more than that and it is pretty much a babysitting episode, rather than any meaningful education. Teachers aids can help, and volunteers in a special education classrooms are a good thing, but those teacher’s aids must also be trained to deal with special education kids, who must be handled differently, and appropriately.

Of course this causes conflict with the parents of regular kids in the regular classrooms, because it takes a tremendous amount of budget money in special ed programs. Right now, as you know the school districts around the nation are cutting as much as they can to save costs. Every school district must cut as much as possible, as many states are nearly bankrupt. Looking for the federal government to help out probably won’t work, even though the federal mandates for the no child left behind programs are part of the problem.

Those kids who have autism, or have learning disabilities in special ed can come a long way if they get the proper trained, taught, and have the proper teachers to make that happen. In the future they can in fact support themselves as adults. If we fail to teach them correctly now, they become wards of the state in later years. The reality of one-on-one education needs help, but also don’t forget that the kids in normal classes also need one-on-one attention when learning the more technical aspects in computer class.

It is unfortunate to see that the special-education classes and the regular classes are being pitted against each other, along with parents fighting each other over the budget at the school board meetings. The reality is that one-on-one education for special education is appropriate given the situation, but we must also understand that if we take all the money and throw it into special ed to provide the one-on-one support needed to properly teach these kids, then the rest of the school will suffer.

If our schools cannot teach our kids properly then our society as a whole will be in severe jeopardy in 20 years when these kids are then in charge of running the society and civilization. Perhaps you can see how important this issue is, and also understand why we are failing at it. If we don’t address these issues, and are too concerned with being politically correct, then neither side will win, and everyone loses. It’s time to take a realistic approach to the cost and actual funding available for our education system, or we won’t have one. Please consider all this.

M.B.A. (Master of Business Administration) is a tough and expensive graduate degree that usually requires an undergraduate diploma as a prerequisite.

But, believe it or not, there are still a few M.B.A. programs around the country which accept business experience as a substitute for college degree.

1) Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business in Dallas, Texas. Marci Armstrong, the associate dean for graduate programs, has described the graduate students without undergraduate diplomas as follows: “I find that these students become very loyal and active alumni. Their executive M.B.A. credential may mean more to them than it does to other students because they don’t have an undergraduate degree.” (Wall Street Journal, April 24, 2007)

2) University of North Carolina and Georgia State University are among the other big universities that do accept highly-motivated M.B.A. students with business experience who do not have a formal college education. David Forquer, the head of Georgia State’s executive M.B.A. program had nothing but high praise for such students: “They almost always turn out to be wonderfully engaged students.” In 1998, the top M.B.A. graduate at Georgia State was a non-degree student.

There are also those executive education classes and management certificate programs available for non-degree students that provide quality executive training without, however, awarding an M.B.A. degree. Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business is one such school.

CalTech’s Industrial Relations Center also do have a good “Executive Education Program” that you might want to check out.

The environmental management MBA course of study revolves around the learning of human and environmental health concerns, water quality, waste removal systems and their balanced connection with business operations. This is a two-year degree program to prepare students to explore the industry of environmental specialists for large business corporations. Due to the fact that environment has become an issue of top priority; more businesses have come to close concern with ecological impact. Business owners are putting more importance into decreasing environmental damage and increase the sustainability.

Of all the MBA programs, the MBA environmental management program marks a foundation of capstone project or thesis that studies some aspect of environmental issues. And for students to enroll into this program, one must first acquire the bachelor’s degree from an acknowledged university or college. It depends on the individual MBA School; some schools are comfortable with the GRE scores but a number of schools only recognize the GMAT test scores as a requirement to pursue the MBA program.

In the environmental management MBA degree syllabus, students will be obligated into studying environmental factors in business management, business law and regulations, and of course, several research-based subjects majoring in sustainability, chemistry and statistics. Besides, graduates are given the opportunity to explore the market’s environmental trends through hands-on business internships or huge seminars. Some of the listed courses encompass the following: environmental law, advanced ecology, industrial business planning, environmental and health economics, and environmental risk management.

Speaking of the possible career options delivered by the MBA environmental management program, students need not be worried as a master’s degree is sure to bring high level careers offered by government agencies, private sectors or some large environmental organizations, even in the global arena. Several enlightened probable job options include business sustainability director, occupational health technician, environmental project manager, environmental health manager and business health and safety specialist. If you are not satisfied with the given opportunities, you can get yourself governmentally certified through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals to become more widely acknowledged.

Special education laws have had a substantial impact on bilingual special education. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), originally passed in 1975 and reauthorized in 2004, governs special education services in public schools. The law protects the rights of students with disabilities and their families and tries to ensure that ELLs are assessed fairly. The law includes numerous provisions outlined below.

1. Informed consent: Schools must obtain written informed consent from parents or guardians to evaluate a student. Parents must be fully informed of their rights, any records to be released and to whom, and the nature and purpose of the evaluation. Parents or guardians must be informed in their native language or primary mode of communication.

2. Multidisciplinary team: Students should be assessed by a team of professionals with varied areas of expertise according to the student’s individuals needs. The team should include at least one general education teacher and one special education teacher. For English language learners, the team should include someone with expertise in the language acquisition process.

3. Comprehensive evaluation: Before an initial placement, the multidisciplinary team must conduct a complete assessment in all areas of suspected disability. No single procedure can be used as the sole criterion for determining an appropriate educational program for a child. Alternative procedures should be used when standardized tests are not considered appropriate (e.g., with culturally and linguistically diverse students). A comprehensive evaluation should include an analysis of the instructional setting and the child’s instructional history.

4. Exclusionary criteria: A student should not be labeled if the academic struggles are primarily the result of environmental, cultural, or economic disadvantage. IDEA 2004 adds that a child should not be found to have a disability if the determinant factor is poor instruction in reading or math, or limited English proficiency.

5. Nondiscriminatory assessment: Assessments should be (a) selected and administered so as not to be racially or culturally discriminatory; (b) provided and administered in the child’s native language or other mode of communication and in the form most likely to yield accurate information on what the child knows and can do academically, developmentally, and functionally, unless it is clearly not feasible; (c) used for the purposes for which the assessments are valid and reliable; (d) administered by trained and knowledgeable personnel; and (e) administered in accordance with any instructions provided by the producer of the assessments.

As of 2009, there were 156,000 graduates in this field in the US alone.

Commerce is an area in which there is massive potential, in fact it is this industry which is often suggested to be the backbone of the American economy. With other sectors now in decline, or undergoing extremely slow growth, an MBA would provide the skills and aptitude to flourish through times of recession or economic slowdown.

To undertake an MBA program, there is usually a requirement to successfully complete the GRE or GMAT tests. These examinations would provide you with knowledge and understanding that would be integral to the completion of the MBA program that you choose. There can also be specific eligibility criteria set out by the various schools you apply to, for example you may be asked to submit references, essays, or have work experience in a recognized sector.

MBA courses include a range of subjects. At the core are usually modules that relate to marketing strategies, operations management, leadership, micro and macro economics, negotiation principles, accounting, entrepreneurship, project management, and business ethics. It is important to analyse the syllabus in full prior to enrolling in a particular school so that you can understand whether it offers skills that enhance your career goals.

The benefits on offer upon completion of a recognised MBA program are great. As the number of graduates in business is increasing, so has the competition for the most desirable employment positions. Alongside the course program, other factors should be at the fore when choosing a particular school. Check out the details of past alumni to get an understanding of the possibilities available upon graduation. Also, understand the experience of the staff leading the training. If the tutors have connections in the business world, this can be of great use upon graduation in terms of seeking employment.

It is theoretically possible for a graduate from MBA degree programs and receive a salary of more than $60,000 at the initial stage. Alongside the financial benefits, the job satisfaction and job security for MBA degree holders is extremely desirable. The commitment and hard work that is involved with studying a master’s in business administration does bring ample rewards.

This is one question that many potential college students ask themselves when they near the end of high school. They have been told that the most sensible thing to do is to go into higher education if they want to earn more money, but many aren’t sure if it is the right thing for them.

First of all, it should be pointed out that college is not necessary for success. There have been many examples where people with just a high school education have gone onto big things, so by not going to college does not mean someone is a failure.

However, going to college is becoming more and more important. The workplace is getting more competitive by the year, and a college education makes an applicant stand out from the crowd. The numbers of people around the world who are going onto higher education is increasing.

Getting a college education opens up many opportunities that may not have been available to a student with just a high school education. On average, college graduates earn around double in their life time than high school graduates.

The answer to the question “Is college necessary for success?” is that college isn’t necessary, but does make it a lot easier. Getting a college education makes someone an expert in their field, and also allows them to network with lots of people with similar interests. The most highly paid and powerful jobs often require a college education, so while getting a degree is not essential for success, it is important.

Some of you might have diploma qualification from respective fields of study. If you have a diploma qualification and vast experience in management positions, and you are considering whether you are eligible to enroll to a MBA degree course. The main problem is that you do not have a bachelor’s degree qualification yet as it is one of the main criteria for the admission of this particular postgraduate program.

In this case, it is advisable for you to enroll to a business undergraduate program before you take a step up to the postgraduate program. It is not a much problem of getting a bachelor’s degree qualification since you have a diploma qualification and several related working experiences in order to get a place in one of the high ranked accredited business schools. You will be able to learn most of the related business concepts and application in these prestigious business schools that can benefit in your future career advancement.

As a matter a fact, there are some programs that allow diploma holders with related experiences as a prerequisite for the admission of a MBA degree program. It happens when your diploma qualification is recognized by the accredited business school that you want to apply, and you have averagely more than six years of related working experiences.

However, this does not guarantee you a place in a postgraduate business school as you need to get satisfactory results on your TOEFL and GMAT; and fulfill any other requirements for course admission. In fact, these requirements for this foundation course differ from school to school.

Generally speaking, taking up a MBA degree course should not be too hasty. Basically, there are several things you need to put into consideration such as course preparation, time management, tuition fees; and other possibilities that could distract the process of learning.
